In autumn 2004 the North East will become home to a premier new railway museum, Shildon Railway Village. The popular Timothy Hackworth Museum currently based on site will be revamped and incorporated into the Railway Village to form a single 6 hectare site. The village will feature a 6,000 square meter single storey collections centre, housing up to 60 vehicles from the National Railway Museum's Collection, making it the first ever 'out station' for the National Railway Museum. Visitors can enjoy modern interactive exhibits, retail, catering and landscaped park.
